Welcome to Winona Lake, Indiana, where lakeside homes promise spectacular views all year round and the roster of previous residents includes the famous evangelist Billy Sunday. Located approximately 40 miles northwest of Fort Wayne, 18 miles south of Syracuse and two miles east of the Warsaw Indiana real estate market. The allure of Winona Lake real estate and this town of approximately 5,000 residents is defined by one body of water cradled on the western edge of town: Winona Lake.
The lake covers approximately 560 acres and is known for its abundance of catfish, bluegill, yellow perch, sunfish and bass. You can catch largemouth as well as whitefish bass, and the bottom of the lake is a combination of clay, gravel, sand, marl and muck.
The Winona Lake real estate market includes prized lakeside properties, homes a short drive from the water, and many family-friendly communities spread throughout the middle and eastern sections of town. There are also some empty lots of land along the Winona Lake shoreline, so you could design and build your lakeside dream home. If you select your neighborhood wisely, you could live within steps of Heritage Trail, Winona Lake Park or the Village at Winona.
Winona Lake Park sits on the lake at 1590 Park Avenue and is just south of the Village at Winona. The park's features start with a playground and splash pad for the kids, but it also includes tennis courts, picnic areas, a swimming beach and open green spaces for relaxation. Residents and visitors can rent canoes and kayaks to enjoy time on the lake, and the Adirondack chairs are always waiting.
Heritage Trail is part of a larger Ride+Walk trail system that extends to Warsaw and other towns located along Winona Lake. The trails cross through the northern end of Winona Lake Park and offer safe, paved paths for walking, jogging and biking. A community arts project has enriched the trails with sculptures, and an Arts Walk is held the second Friday of each month.
The Village at Winona Lake is home to more than 20 renovated Victorian homes, but it's also one of the town's most prestigious hubs for entertainment and dining. The shoreline features artisan shops selling everything from jewelry and pottery to artwork and baked goods. For an upscale dining experience, make a reservation at Ceruleans, but The Boat House is best for family dining.
Many of the largest community events held around the Winona Lake real estate market take place in the Village, including the Art Fair, Porsche Festival, Oktoberfest and Fat & Skinny Tire Fest. To take full advantage of the area's natural beauty, rent mountain bikes from the Trail House and explore the biking trails spread throughout the city. You can also rent paddleboards and pontoons from the Lake House.
The Winona Lake real estate market also features many communities away from the water, including the Wooded Hills subdivision. It's located just southeast of Winona Lake and features two lakes plus multiple trails for biking, walking and jogging. You will find the community on Trailside Drive, just north of Bibler Memorial Park.
Do you want to live further away from the lake? The Winona Lake real estate market also includes spacious homes in family-friendly neighborhoods situated on the eastern edge of town. One of the most popular areas is Stonehenge, which is nestled in the town's southeastern corner. In this area, you're trading views of the lake for views of the Stonehenge Golf & Country Club. Another great option in this area is Heritage Lake Park.
It's easy to get caught up with the beautiful scenery in Winona Lake, but one of the biggest perks to living in town is Grace College. This prominent Christian liberal arts college and seminary is home to the Manahan Orthopedic Capital Center, which brings many athletic events and seminars to town. The center is also used for banquets and a variety of large events. Located a short distance from Winona Lake Park, this college serves as a primary cultural center that enriches the entire community.
